Turkish delight narnia meme3/15/2024 Sugar was VERY strictly rationed, and sweets (candy) basically non-existent (on a side-note I think a lot of Britains’s reputation for crap food amongst Americans comes from this time - during the war when a large number of Americans were over here for really the first time, the island was existing on an extremely limited diet). People weren’t even allowed fresh bread - by law, bread had to sold the day AFTER it was baked, because if it was too tasty people would eat too much of it. You know you’re desperate when you start eating snoek. But I think this part of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is extremely pignant, and often misundertood:īritain was under severe rationing at the time the story takes place: children couldn’t get a damn banana in this country and snoek fish became a mainstay of the British diet. Perhaps I’m biased because not only would I sell out my entire family for Turkish Delight, I wouldn’t even feel guilty. It was good, but not “Sell out my family to the White Queen” good. Just tried Turkish Delight for the first time.
